“Hmm...I wonder what kind of tree that is?”
That’s a question many of us have asked while hiking. To help you answer the question,
The Land Trust of North Alabama is offering a tree-identification workshop at Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve from February 11-12.
Jesse Akozbek of Feral Foraging will offer workshop participants the knowledge and skills to identify trees, even in winter when the trees have lost their leaves. The program, which includes class lectures and field study, will focus on tree bud and bark identification. The field study will include some light hiking in cold weather, so participants should dress accordingly.
The cost for the workshop is $45 for Land Trust members and $60 for non-members. According to the Land Trust, “Course fees will help pay for instruction, snacks and drinks, the Feral Foraging Tree Bud Identification sheet, and the pocket-sized booklet Winter Tree Finder: A Manual for Identifying Deciduous Trees in Winter, by May T. Watts and Tom Watts.”
