Land Trust Adds 5.6 Acres to Monte Sano Nature Preserve

By Marcus Woolf

The Land Trust of North Alabama recently received a donation of 5.61 acres of land on Monte Sano Mountain, allowing expansion of the Monte Sano Nature Preserve.

See Forever Development Partners made the donation, which enables the Land Trust to preserve land adjacent to the Dummy Line Trail and Toll Gate Trail just north of the Bankhead Trailhead parking area on Bankhead Parkway. While trails have passed through this parcel of land for many years, the 5.61 acres was not formally protected.

“This land has long been identified as a missing piece of the preserve,” said Marie Bostick, Land Trust of North Alabama Executive Director. “We appreciate See Forever Development Partners for working with us to ensure this land and the trail network are forever protected.”

One of the largest urban land preserves in the United States, the Monte Sano Nature Preserve covers more than 1,100 acres and includes more than 22 miles of trails.
