The Land Trust of North Alabama announced it will offer guided hikes each week during the month of January. Whether you’re new to hiking or new to the Huntsville area, this is a great opportunity.

Beginner hikers can explore local trails and greenways with confidence knowing that their guide is familiar with the route and has solid navigation skills. As beginners hike with a guide, they can practice map and compass skills and learn to explore the outdoors safely and comfortably.

Guided hikes are also beneficial for experienced hikers, whether they’ve recently moved to the Huntsville area, or they grew up here and want to learn more about local trails. Guides can give you tips on new places to explore. Plus, the volunteers who lead hikes often share details about plants and animals, the geography and geology of the region, and the history of hiking areas and the surrounding community. As an added benefit, these outings will help you connect with other members of the hiking community.

You don’t need a lot of gear to join a hike—just comfortable shoes, water, snacks, and maybe a hiking stick and camera. (Dogs on leashes are welcome.) To join a hike, you must have a reservation, so click here to register and get more information.
